In October 2002 my late husband HaDi and I decided to move to Cyprus. Once in our lifetime we wanted to experience Mediterranean living. Our daughter was 1 ½ years old and we thought before she goes to school we could spend some time in a foreign country. We chose Cyprus for several reasons; however, one important reason was the good climate. My daughter suffered from Neurodermitis and we were told that the sun and the sea will be beneficial.
On January 5th 2003 we touched ground in Pafos, Cyprus. We rented a villa from a local Cypriot for 6 years in the beautiful Sea Caves area. After 1 ½ years we were told that the property will be sold and we were asked to terminate the lease premature. This was - so far - the only real disappointing experience we had in this country. We like the way of living in Cyprus, we enjoy 350 days sunshine, and we like the Cypriots. Therefore we decided to stay in Cyprus for an undefined period of time. With this decision, we also decided not to rent any more but to build our Dream Villa.
Of course deciding to build and actually building is a longer process. While we were living in Coral Bay we regularly visited the area of Koumasia. Koumasia is about 200 m above sea level and from there you have the most spectacular view spanning from Paphos to Akamas National park. Sitting on the edge of the rocks and enjoying the sun sets are as romantic as on any postcard! That´s were we wanted to build our villa!
As a foreigner it is difficult to build a house on your own for several reasons. After an extensive evaluation process we opted for the General Contractor Pafilia (reason why I will explain later).
After all plans were finished and we were ready to start my husband died on a heart attack. Everything was open again – I was in a life crisis as anyone would be. Many questions came to mind - one of them was what to do with the Dream Villa project! Once again I was touched by the way Cypriots react: The family owned building company Pafilia gave me immediately all options: continue, cancel, wait and see.... There was no pressure but in the contrary warms and caring!
After 6 months Sarah and I decided to stay in this beautiful country and live on our life’s. Of course the financial situation changed and the overall living space of initially 280 square meters was way too large for Sarah and me.
My brother helped me out in the discussions and negotiations with Pafilia. He subsequently offered to join the project and change the layout of the villa into two separate living spaces: the ground floor would be occupied by Sarah and I, the first floor will become his private residence. This option was a good compromise: I could build my dream villa in Koumasia without stretching my financial means.
I recently visited Canada. The countryside was spectacular. Have a look at this short video...

Pafilia subcontracted our bathroom enclosures to Konikkos, a shower specialist in Pafos. Mr. Charalambos Dionysiou, the Managing Director, paid attention to every detail of the shower cabinets. The result was perfect, 100 points! Visit www.shower.com.cy/ for details.
